Story- Falconry

Falconry

I am a Master Falconer. I have been licensed since 2011, first in California, and now in Arizona. My former career was providing bird abatement services, where I worked with my hawk and falcon to clear areas of nuisance birds, like gulls and pigeons, from outside eating areas.

I am currently practicing falconry, as described below, with my 10 year old Lanner falcon, Basil.

Falconry is the ancient art of training birds of prey, such as falcons, hawks, and eagles, to hunt in partnership with humans. This practice has a rich history, dating back thousands of years, and is often seen as a unique blend of sport, and a deep understanding of nature. Enthusiasts of falconry not only appreciate the skill involved in training these magnificent birds, but also the bond that forms between the falconer and their bird. Today, falconry is recognized as both a cultural heritage and a form of wildlife management.
